CrossFit South East Regional Qualifier

 

Wow...where to begin....we had an amazing weekend in Jax participating in the Dirty South Regional Qualifier of the Crossfit Games. Crossfit Revolution had 4 competitors (yes...we are counting Garth even though he officially represented CF Huntsville:) ...1 judge and many loyal supporters. Trey, Ed, Garth and I competed and Paul was an event judge. Although the four of us where pretty gassed...I still think Paul worked the hardest:) Michele, Brian, Melissa, Jen, Brenda, Katie and all our kids made the event extra special. I want to thank everyone for their motivation, support and friendship...this was a truly special event. I feel like we all did great...although the official standings aren't out yet...I think we are all winners! It takes a special person to have the guts to compete at this elite level...this wasn'tyour local 5k full of soccer moms and chubby white collar types...this was the real deal. People got wrecked!!! World Class athletes where in the house...CF Huntsville head trainer Russ came out on top...he is an amazing athlete and a great guy! Fellow Floridians  Lance, Bionic and Leo all represented and will be going to California for the finals!

On a personal note: my hands are destroyed...my hamstrings feel like piano wire and my shoulders are screaming! I learned a lot about myself and feel like our programing and coaching has been affirmed. In the end we all had a chance to witness some spectacular performance and spend some much needed time with family and friends. I think my favorite part was eating my bacon in the cool shade of my secret garden:) I know...I know I'm retarded!!!!

No Excuses

  

Yesterday...I was talking Crossfit with some guys at the gym. I was making my usual excuses for my previous crappy performance..."I'm overtrained"..."my diet has been ugly"..."my achilles hurts". Then Patti Ryan walked in and I felt like a friggin loser!!! Patti is one of our founding members...she's a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy and a full time mom. She is also battling cancer! If you've met Patti you know she is a warm, funny, outgoing and overall great person...she does her chemotherapy and then comes in to do the wod. How's that for commitment? The next time your to tired, sore or just not "feeling it"...think about people like Patti! She doesn't make excuses and neither should you! The community aspect of crossfit has been life changing for me and my family...I'm proud of all of our athletes...Crossfit has become my dysfunctional (or is it functional) second family:) Like any family I think it's important to try and take care of our own. So...I'm trying to put together a fundraiser in the next few weeks for Patti...I'll keep everyone posted as the planning progressess...I hope everyone can come out and support one of our own. If anyone wants to offer help or feedback please let me know? Thanks in advance. E

Kenyans are fast...conventional running circles often attribute this fact to the Kenyans training at higher elevations...their pro running societal influence...genetics...etc.etc. I think there may be another factor that contributes to creating these super runners...they are poor. The poor who are living in the third world often go without items we take for granted. The most obvious item missing in this photo (courtesy of www.crossfitendurance.com) ...SHOES!!!! When you don't have on shoes you better run on the ball of your foot...if you don't...invest in a cane! Kenyans like many other poor countries don't have proper footwear until the become young adults...in my opinion this is what makes them better runners. The don't have to re-learn proper bio-mechanics...unlike us westerners. The shoe industry has ruined our gait...so the POSE running method feels awkward and strange at first. The POSE method is how humans are meant to run. If you're unfamiliar with the POSE methodology come on in...I can help!
